Jharsuguda Police Withdraw Arms From Constable Who Allegedly Threatened To Kill Convicted MLA Anup Sai

Jharsuguda: Even before the murder of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kisore Das, who was shot by an on-duty police ASI Gopal Das here on January 29, could be erased from the minds of the people, another police officer has put the Odisha Police in discomfort.

The police officer concerned is Kolabira police station constable Saroj Das, who, in an inebriated state, allegedly threatened to kill former Brajarajnagar MLA Anup Sai on Monday. While Anup Sai was convicted in a double murder case and is currently out on bail, police have withdrawn the service revolver of constable Das and shunted him to the district police headquarters.

According to reports, Saroj hurled abuses and allegedly threatened to kill Sai for murdering his cousin sister Kalpana Das.

It is worth mentioning here that Kalpana Das (32) and Panggi alias Babli Das (14) of Brajrajnagar were brutally killed on a road under Dhachakranagar police limits in Chhattisgarh in 2016. Saroj, who claims Kalpana Das to be his cousin sister, had helped the Chhattisgarh Police to identify the bodies and was also a witness in the case. He has given a statement in the court that Anup Sai was involved in the dual murders.

Following the incident on Monday, Jharsuguda Police, which is already in deep waters after the reported involvement of Gopal Das in the Naba Das murder case, withdrew the service revolver of Saroj Das and shifted him to the district police headquarters. The police authorities have also started a drive to withdraw arms from all the drunken police officials and transfer them to the district police headquarters.
