PM Lauds Odia scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty In ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Show

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Mody on Sunday lauded Odia scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty, the first woman scientist from India to be awarded the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Award 2023, in the 99th episode of his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

Professor Jyotirmayee Mohanty, a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, received the coveted IUPAC Award 2023 in the ‘Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering’ category. Born in Odisha’s Cuttack, Jyotirmayee is also the first woman to receive a fellowship in Science and Engineering Research Board.

She has also been conferred with a fellowship from the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in the United Kingdom.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier praised Jyotirmayee. Taking to his Twitter handle, Patnaik wrote, “I congratulate the Odia scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty, who has been selected for the prestigious IUPAC Award 2023 as the country’s first woman. Her achievement in the field of chemistry is a matter of pride and glory for all. I wish her to scale greater heights of success in the coming days.”

Recently, the IUPAC announced the names of 12 recipients, in order to celebrate International Day of Women in science. The awards ceremony was previously constituted as part of the 2011 International Year of Chemistry celebrations. It is held every year to promote and acknowledge the works of women chemists and chemical engineers worldwide.
