Bhubaneswar: At least 30 shops were razed to the ground in a major fire that broke out at the daily market in Odisha’s Keonjhar town on Monday morning.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that an electric short circuit is responsible for the blaze. On being informed, Fire Services personnel reached the spot and are currently engaged in dousing the fire. They are finding it difficult to bring the fire under control owing to the scarcity of water in the area.
According to reports, many grocery and cloth stores in the market complex have been affected by the fire. Properties worth lakhs of rupees have been reduced to ash in the fire.
Sub-collector Ramachandra Kisku, who visited the fire mishap site, said that efforts are on to douse the blaze. The matter will be investigated, he added.
