Jharsuguda: Three people were burnt to death on the spot, and three others sustained varying degrees of injuries when two coal-laden trailer trucks collided head-on in front of the Jharsuguda RTO office on National Highway No. 49 in the early hours of Thursday.
According to reports, both vehicles caught fire after the collision. It took several hours for the Fire Services personnel to douse the fire. Large cranes have been deployed to separate the burnt and mangled trailers.
On being informed, the police arrived at the spot and rescued the injured and sent them to a nearby healthcare facility. The identity of the deceased and critically injured is yet to be ascertained. The police have started an investigation into the accident.
Meanwhile, traffic on the National Highway N. 49 came to a standstill after the accident. Police have been trying to clear the traffic jam since the morning but with little success.
